The riding gear in Saint’s catalog consistently blurs the lines between form and function. Despite being highly functional motorcyclist apparel, their jeans and jackets can easily pass for streetwear. But from the look of their latest release, times may be changing. These are the new Saint Road Gloves, a no-nonsense motorcycling glove that won’t pull any punches when protecting your precious digits.
Although slick in their styling Saint has taken a more traditional sports bike design approach with the Road Gloves. Crafted to appeal to all styles of riders, especially those who like to push the limits, these gloves offer 3-season compatibility and a Level 1 CE safety rating.
The Road Gloves feature padded details along the top of each finger, and wrist to soak up the force of any impacts. To help prevent bursting, seams have been double or triple stitched and the palms are both padded and layered for added protection. The longer gauntlet styling of these gloves provides additional protection to the wrists and Saint has included large velcro forearm closures that can be adjusted to accommodate bulky jacket cuffs. The stand-out feature of the Road Gloves is the carbon fiber knuckle guards. Along with looking tough as nails their carbon construction provides ample peace of mind for the safety conscious.
The outer shell of the Road Gloves is formed primarily from goat leather. Well known for its abrasion resistance, goat leather has the added benefit of being very supple so there is little to no break-i period with these gloves. When temperatures rise, perforations on the palms, thumbs, and fingers of each glove allow cool air in. Unfortunately, these also make these gloves unsuitable for wet weather riding, but as is often the case, making an all-year compatible riding glove is near impossible.
Along with the large forearm closure Saint has included a second adjustment strap at the wrist to hold them firmly in place. Similar to the Saint Inside Out Gloves, external-facing seams on the bottom edge of each finger boost comfort levels and the inside of each glove is lined with a soft, breathable fabric. These days it’s become customary for motorcycle gloves to work with smartphones and Saint hasn’t overlooked this fact by making both the index fingers and thumbs on these gloves touchscreen compatible.
The Saint Road Gloves only come in black, fit true to size, and feature subtle embossed branding on the wrist. The Road Gloves are a surprising addition to the Saint range but a welcome one. I don’t like to skimp on safety when it comes to protecting my hands and these aggressive-looking purposeful gloves tick all the boxes. Retailing for $199 AUD they are available now from the Saint website.
